The path to the future: from challenge to opportunity.
read moreAcross workshops and production halls throughout Europe, state-of-the-art EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) systems stand ready for use – yet their potential often remains untapped. The reason is not technical shortcomings, but a critical lack of specialists trained to operate them.
According to a study by the Boston Consulting Group, the German economy is projected to face a loss of approximately €84 billion. However, the true cost goes much further: existing staff are forced to fill the gaps, leading to overload. As a result, health insurance providers report rising sickness rates in 61% of businesses, fuelling a vicious cycle of overwork and understaffing that causes ongoing disruption in operations.

Application Engineer – EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) bei Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V.
Expert in Electrical Discharge Machining with over 35 years of experience in tool and mould making. A trained toolmaker with a background in CNC programming, wire EDM, and leadership roles in the automotive industry. I deliver hands-on training focused on enhancing precision and efficiency.
Application Engineer bei DCAM GmbH
The training course on EDM software is led by Marcel Schilsky. With over a decade of hands-on experience operating EDM machines and even more years specialising in software application, he works daily as an application engineer solving complex workpiece challenges using EDM software. You couldn’t ask for a more qualified instructor when it comes to software training.
Trainer for EDM, CNC, CAD/CAM, and Metrology bei SBH Nordost GmbH
The two-week training block at SBH is led by Mr Marcel Rudloff. With two decades of experience as a trainer in EDM, CNC, CAD/CAM, and metrology, he brings extensive expertise in delivering user training specifically on Mitsubishi EDM machines.
In the first week, participants immerse themselves in the fascinating world of electrical discharge machining at the SBH Training Centre. They explore the historical development and physical principles behind this unique machining method. Participants learn how tiny electrical discharges can precisely remove material and gain a fundamental understanding of the structure and components of modern EDM machines. Special emphasis is placed on the key machining parameters and surface characteristics that critically influence the quality of the final workpieces.
In the second week, aspiring specialists head to Mitsubishi Electric in Ratingen near Düsseldorf, where they gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge wire EDM machines. Participants not only learn the basics of machine operation but also delve deep into programming and the precise setup of workpieces. They acquire skills in efficient process planning and develop an understanding of proper machine maintenance and care – a key factor in ensuring longevity and precision.
In the third week, the focus shifts to the digital side of EDM technology. At DCAM, just outside Berlin, participants receive intensive training on the DCAMCUT system. This is where the gap between digital design and physical manufacturing is bridged – participants learn how a CAD model is translated into machine code. The highlight of this phase is the practical implementation of real components on a next-generation Mitsubishi Electric machine, where participants put their newly acquired skills directly into practice.
In the final week, participants return to the SBH Training Centre to deepen and consolidate their knowledge of wire EDM. In addition, they broaden their horizons with an introduction to the fundamentals of die-sinking EDM – a complementary EDM technology with its own distinct applications. Participants gain insight into the specific characteristics of parameter control and apply their knowledge in practical exercises. The week concludes with a demanding final examination, upon passing which participants are awarded the coveted certificate as certified EDM specialists.
In these, you can clarify open questions, discuss challenges, and consolidate what you have learned – so you remain optimally supported between the modules as well.
